As a student at University of New Mexico Gary Young had a passion for geology. Later Gary took this hobby with his wife, Priscilla, and began collecting in the mountain ranges of New Mexico. They started selling their collection out of their car on weekends.
After a couple of years of selling out of their car, Gary and Priscilla Young then founded Southwestern Minerals in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They then rented a property on Central Ave. In 1969 they purchased their current storefront on Central and Louisiana. Their daughter, Melisa, son-in law Micheal, and grandson Jason, joined the business from a very young age. They have gained the passion and vast knowledge for minerals and gems. With more than five decades of experience, Southwestern Minerals prides itself on its knowledge of gems, minerals, jewelry making, beading, and customer service.
